Frequently Asked Questions
What is psychosexual therapy?
Psychosexual therapy is a specialised form of talking therapy that focuses on difficulties around sex, intimacy, and relationships. It provides a safe and supportive space to explore what might be affecting your sexual wellbeing and helps you move towards a more fulfilling intimate life.
Do I have to be in a relationship to come to therapy?
Not at all. Many people come on their own, while others attend as a couple. Therapy can be just as valuable whether you’re single, in a new relationship, or in a long-term partnership.
What kinds of issues can psychosexual therapy help with?
People seek therapy for many different reasons, including low desire, difficulties with arousal or orgasm, painful sex, differences in sexual needs within a couple, intimacy concerns, sexual identity questions, or the impact of past experiences and trauma.
Will I have to talk about very personal details?
You’re always in control of what you share. Some people want to go into detail straight away, while others prefer to take their time. We’ll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Does therapy involve physical or sexual activity?
No, psychosexual therapy is a talking therapy only. You will never be asked to undress, be examined, or engage in any physical activity during sessions. Sometimes I may suggest exercises for you to try in your own time at home, but only if you feel comfortable.
How long does it take?
The number of sessions varies depending on your needs. Some people find a few sessions are enough, while others benefit from longer-term support. We can discuss this together and agree what feels right for you.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes — what you share in therapy is treated with respect and confidentiality. The only exceptions are rare situations where there are concerns about safety, and I will always explain these clearly at the start.
