Couples and Relationship Therapy

Couples and relationship therapy helps romantic partners resolve conflict, improve communication and to develop more empathy and affection for one another. It can be helpful following a crisis, such as an affair or difficulties following a significant life event, such as moving in together, the arrival of children, retirement or the loss of a job.

“Are you ready to reconnect and rebuild trust?”
“Are you and your partner stuck in the same cycle?”
“Are you worried your relationship is beyond repair?”

I believe that being emotionally open and vulnerable opens the door to the development of more understanding, trust, love and intimacy in relationships. It is the foundation to connection, to becoming your authentic self and being able to love others with an open heart. We often feel pressure to be strong and toughen up to protect ourselves from hurt and pain, but without vulnerability, relationships struggle.

Through couples and relationship therapy I will be able to support you to express your true feelings to each other and ask for what you need in order to experience the love and connection you deserve.

“Vulnerability is not winning or losing. It's having the courage to show up when you can't control the outcome.” – Brené Brown

Relationship therapy jackie morley

Life changes can often cause strain and disruption in relationships. It can lead us to feeling agitated with one another where one person may withdraw, whilst the other may feel anxious to talk situations through in order to swiftly resolve conflict. This causes a pursuer–withdrawer pattern that can become unhealthy and unsustainable as neither person is getting their relationship needs met. This can often lead to conflict, a lack of intimacy and desire, emotional and physical distance from one another and affairs and betrayals.

I will draw upon a variety of models and theoretical approaches, such as attachment theory, Imago, and TA (Transactional Analysis) in order to help manage conflict and develop a strong, more emotionally mature connection with each other.

I will ask you to attend two initial assessment couples/relationship sessions. These will aim to obtain an overview of the difficulties you are experiencing from each of your individual perspectives. It will explore your relationship history together, including your sexual history and any particular goals you wish to obtain from therapy. Following the assessment process a verbal formulation will be provided about the issues you may be experiencing.
